THE BALL WILL FIND YOU.
At higher levels, playing forward is not about forcing it.
It is about what you can see before you receive.
THE MOMENT.
When the ball breaks a line,
you are now between the lines.
This is where you can attack the next line.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SEE.
You must see three things.
The ball.
The defender.
The space.
All in the same frame.
YOU FOLLOW THE BALL.
Following the ball creates problems.
You leave your space.
The defender can see both you and the ball.
You become easy to press.
THE LINE.
Imagine a line through the defender.
If you stand on it,
they can press you straight.
If you stand just off it,
they must press at an angle.
WHY IT WORKS.
Diagonal pressure is slower.
It gives you time.
Now you can see everything clearly.
FIRST TOUCH.
When you see everything,
your first touch becomes positive.
Away from pressure.
Into space.
PRINCIPLE.
Do not follow the ball.
Hold your space.
Stand off the line.
See everything.
Play forward.
