This video focuses on one habit that will help you play faster as a midfielder.
Speed of play is not about fast feet.
It comes from seeing the picture of the field before the ball arrives.
One of the most common situations in football is when the ball travels from wide areas into the middle. In these moments, defenders naturally watch the ball and move closer to it.
When that happens, the defense becomes narrow.
And when the defense narrows, space usually opens on the far side of the field.
The key is recognizing that before you receive the ball.
If you check the far side early, you already know what the field looks like.
Now when the ball arrives, you don’t need extra touches to search for options.
You can simply receive and switch the play.
That is how midfielders control the tempo of the game.
Not by moving faster.
But by seeing the situation earlier than everyone else.
