The Concepts Behind The Videos
All In One Place.
BETWEEN TOUCHES.
The best decisions are usually made before the final action.
THE SITUATION.
You're driving at the back line.
The defender is moving.
The space is changing.
The final pass is coming.
THE DETAIL.
Every touch creates a moment where the ball is traveling.
You can't touch it again yet.
That time is free information.
THE ACTION.
Scan between the touches.
One thing per scan.
A runner.
A defender.
A passing lane.
The back line.
Build the picture as you drive.
THE BIG TOUCH.
The most important scan often comes after the touch that beats the final defender.
As the ball travels, look up.
Gather information before the next action.
IN WIDE AREAS.
When you enter the box, look across goal first.
It's usually the most dangerous option.
And when you scan across goal, you naturally see everything else in the picture too.
THE RULE.
Use the time the ball is traveling to scan.
CUT HER OFF.
When the defender steps to press you from the side and arrives level with you, there is a moment where you can cut directly across her path.
THE SITUATION.
Right now, there are moments where you escape the pressure backwards or away from goal.
That removes your forward angle and closes the field for the next action.
THE DETAIL.
When the defender is charging with momentum, she cannot stop or change direction quickly.
That is the moment to cut across her path first.
THE TOUCH.
Use the foot closest to the defender.
If she presses from your right side, cut across with your right foot.
Now you place yourself between the defender and the ball.
WHY IT MATTERS.
Once you win the angle, the defender is behind the play.
Now you stay facing forward.
Now the next pass becomes easier.
Now the defender either fouls or loses the duel completely.
FINAL THIRD.
Near the box, defenders hesitate more because fouls become dangerous.
That makes cutting across the defender even more effective.
THE PRINCIPLE.
Do not only escape pressure.
Cut across the defender first and keep the field open in front of you.
SECOND BALL.
At higher levels, the small moments matter more.
Especially the moments after the ball goes long.
This video is about using the time while the ball travels to get ahead and control the next phase.
THE PREDICTABLE MOMENT.
When the ball travels long, it is in a predictable state.
You already know roughly where it will land.
That gives you time to react early.
WHY THE MIDDLE MATTERS.
The center of the pitch is the most important area for second balls.
Because if you win the knockdown there, you have access to the most outlets around you.
You can play left.
Right.
Forward.
Backwards.
That makes it much harder for the other team to win the ball back immediately.
GET AHEAD EARLY.
The best 10s move in front of the opposing 6 before the ball lands.
They arrive early.
So if the ball drops centrally, they are already first to it.
HELP THE MIDFIELD.
Even as a winger, your job is to move inside and help around the second ball.
For a moment, it is okay to give up the wide channel.
The priority is controlling the middle and settling the next phase for your team.
THE PRINCIPLE.
When the ball travels long, use the time early.
Move inside.
Get ahead.
Win the second ball in the middle.
